We call for A RAPID, JUST AND EQUITABLE PHASE-OUT of fossil gas and all their existing infrastructure. A global plan that will ensure that each country does its part.

Why:

Our goal of rapid, just, and equitable energy transition is in peril. Limiting the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius is impossible if governments and corporations continue to build more fossil gas infrastructures. Missing the 1.5 degrees Celsius target means more climate change impacts – especially to the global south.

What We Will Do:

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, climate and environmental groups will come together as one collective force to amplify their call to #EndFossilFuels  in a campaign dubbed  the “Asia Day of Action Against Gas Expansion.”

From Pakistan to India, Bangladesh to Indonesia and the Philippines, one message is clear: Don’t Gas The Global South, we want NO fossil fuels! Climate advocates from these countries will stage a fluvial protest on November 7 to intensify their demands to stem the ride of fossil gas expansion in Asia and beyond. With most countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia  bearing the brunt of climate-related disasters, activists aim to send a STRONG  message to governments and powerful institutions in the lead up to COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan where important matters affecting the future of peoples and planet will once again be deliberated upon.

OUR DEMANDS

No new fossil fuels – no new finance public or private, no new approvals, licenses, permits, or extensions. The provision of sufficient, consensual climate funding to realise this commitment everywhere.

A rapid, just, and equitable phase-out of existing infrastructure in line with the 1.5C temperature limit and a global plan, like a Fossil Fuel Treaty, to ensure that each country does its part.

New commitments for international cooperation to drastically scale up climate finance delivery and technology transfers to ensure renewable energy access, economic diversification plans, and Just Transition processes so that every country and community can phase out fossil fuels.

Stop greenwashing and claiming that offsets, CCS, or geoengineering are solutions to the climate crisis.

Hold polluters responsible for the damage they’ve caused and ensure it’s coal, oil, and gas corporations that pay reparations for climate loss and damage and local rehabilitation, remediation, and transition.

End fossil fuel corporate capture. No to corporations writing the rules of climate action, bankrolling climate talks, or undermining the global response to climate change.
